Storm halfback Cooper Cronk produced three try assists against the Panthers.

The Melbourne Storm have given Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk an extended break this week so the Queenslanders can get their body right for the Roosters on Saturday night.

Smith and Cronk both backed-up for the Storm last weekend after playing in Origin I four days prior, and Bellamy said the Queensland hooker and halfback have been given a few extra days to rest and recuperate.

"We'll rest them up until Friday, although Cooper has been in a couple of times to get some treatment on his ankle," Bellamy said.

"Other than that, they've pulled up pretty good and we always like to give them plenty of time off after playing two games in four days, especially as Origin games are usually very tiring.

"We think the more time we give them off the better, so they'll come in on Friday and do the captains run, and hopefully they'll be right to play Saturday."

Melbourne travel to Sydney in joint top spot, and will be looking to add to their current six-game winning streak when they take on the Roosters this weekend.

While Bellamy is aware the Roosters aren’t the same side they have been over the past few years, the Storm coach knows they're on the rise after a solid performance against the Wests Tigers last week.

"Their position on the table is a little bit different to where they've been in the last three years, they've been the benchmark at this time of the season over that period," Bellamy said.

"Their form has been patchy, they admit to that, but I thought last week was the best I've seen them play this year, and by the body language of the coach and the captain after the game they probably thought it was their best performance too, so you have to think we'll see a lot more of those type of performances from now on."

Storm outside backs Young Tonumaipea and Richie Kennar are still recovering from injury and were not named this weekend, although Bellamy said it's only a matter of time before they come back into first grade calculations.

"Young and Richie were doing a tremendous job earlier on in the year, especially Young who played every game up until his injury," Bellamy said.

"If guys are doing their job well out there, I like to leave them in the side, but I'm sure those guys at some stage in the not too distant future will be playing NRL again."

Another player on the mend in Melbourne is centre Will Chambers. Chambers suffered a foot fracture in the Storm's Round 6 loss to the Bulldogs earlier on this season, but Bellamy said Chambers is progressing nicely with his rehab.

"He's going along pretty well at the moment, he's going on to the next phase in his rehab, so he'll start to do a bit more running soon I'd imagine, it won't be any sprinting or changing direction, but he'll do a bit of that soon," Bellamy said.

"I don't think he's ahead of schedule, but I think he's on schedule so hopefully towards the end of the year he'll be back."
