One of the NRL’s best young forward prospects, Kiwis representative Jason Taumalolo, has extended his contract with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys until the end of the 2017 season.
Cowboys General Manager – Football Peter Parr announced the contract extension on Friday, saying North Queensland was delighted Taumalolo had committed long-term to the club.
"We know Jason has an incredibly bright future in the game and we're delighted that future will be with the Cowboys," Parr said.
The bullocking back-rower had a break-out year in 2014, beginning with the club’s victory in the Auckland Nines. The 22 year old went on to play all 25 matches for the Cowboys, starting in 23 of them, and by season’s end made his international debut for New Zealand at the Four Nations.
"I couldn’t be happier knowing that my future is secured with the club, and look forward to a big season with the boys," Taumalolo said.
Taumalolo trailed only co-captain Matt Scott in metres per game last season and topped the team in tackle busts with 77. He also crossed for six tries during 2014.
"Jason enjoys being part of our tight-knit club and we believe his presence in our line-up will help us achieve some big things," Parr said.
"Jason is still only a young man and has plenty of development left in his game."
Taumalolo made his debut for the Cowboys as a 17-year old at the end of the 2010 season.
