Luckless Wests Tigers fullback James Tedesco is likely to miss the remainder of the 2014 season after fracturing his kneecap in the first tackle of Saturday night’s clash against Canberra.

The club’s early prognosis was a 10-12 week layoff for its star fullback, who had only just returned from an ankle injury a fortnight ago.

Ironically, the season-ending injury – it was the same knee Tedesco blew in 2012 – came against the very club the 21-year-old reneged on a deal with last month.

The patella fracture is believed to be similar to that suffered by teammate Tim Moltzen in the pre-season.

The Camden junior was immediately taken to Campbelltown Hospital to go for x-rays.

Tedesco’s injury is a huge blow for coach Mick Potter, who also has backup options Kurtis Rowe (ankle) and Moltzen on the sidelines, meaning hotshot rookie Mitchell Moses could make his debut against the Panthers at Leichhardt Oval next Sunday afternoon.
