St George Illawarra back-rower Joel Thompson said he'll be filthy with Josh Reynolds if replays of the Red V's 13-10 loss on Friday night confirm that an alleged trip from the Bulldogs five-eighth denied him a first-half try.
The Country Origin representative looked destined for the try-line in the 15th minute with the scores still locked up at nil-all.
The Dragons were earlier correctly denied two tries by the NRL Bunker and Reynolds's alleged trip saw Thompson's side rack up a trifecta of missed opportunities.
St George Illawarra wouldn't score their first try of the game until winger Kurt Mann's 46th minute effort; the Bulldogs instead earned a 13-0 lead by half-time thanks to a try and field goal from Reynolds himself.
Thompson was otherwise complimentary of Reynolds in the aftermath of the Dragons' three-point loss and said if he did trip him then it wouldn't have been deliberate.
"If it was a good try-saver then fair enough and well done. But if it was a trip then that's not on," Thompson said.
"If it was a trip I'll be dirty. I'd be very surprised if it was trip but when I see it and if it was a trip then I'll probably be filthy."
With the incident missed by the on-field officials, Thompson wasn't afforded the opportunity to see a replay in the immediate aftermath.
As far as Thompson's thinking went, he was eyeing off his second try of the season.
"I was ready to do a try celebration hey," Thompson laughed.
"I haven't seen a replay but I was definitely through the gap there. I felt like I was through, I thought it was try time.
"I definitely caught something on the way through. I don't know if it was Joshy or not, I don't know what happened, if it was an arm or a leg. But I was definitely through.
"I saw the try-line and I thought I was through. Next second, I'm hitting the ground and I'm crawling."
Bulldogs coach Des Hasler joked that Reynolds's alleged misbehaviour became an issue as soon it was mentioned in the post-game press conference.
"It is now [an issue], now it's been mentioned," Hasler laughed.
"I'm pretty sure (Reynolds) had his hands on (Thompson) at the same time which should be okay."
A grade one tripping charge has a base penalty of 75 demerit points.
Yet considering Reynolds has had two similar incidents in the past two seasons, he could miss the Bulldogs' Round 22 trip to Newcastle if charged by the match review committee.
