Newcastle Knights winger Akuila Uate has left the club to join the Manly Sea Eagles, who have released back-rower Jamie Buhrer to join Newcastle.
Uate, who had played 161 matches for the Knights after joining the club as a 15-year-old, has represented NSW and Australia and became Newcastle's highest every try-scorer in 2014.
"Aku has been a wonderful player over many years and has a proud record at our club," Knights CEO Matt Gidley said.
"He is a tremendous character of the game and had a special affiliation with the fans.
"We thank Aku for his contribution and wish him and his family all the very best for the future."
Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett described Uate as one of the game's most exciting players.
"The chance for Manly to pick up a quality winger who is just 28 of the calibre of Akuila Uate is exciting for the club," Barrett said.
"Sometimes players need a change of clubs and Akuila at his best is one of the most exciting players in the game. He is eager to make his mark at Manly and wants to put a strong summer training program behind him in preparation for the 2017 season."
Buhrer will depart the Sea Eagles after making 128 first-grade appearances since 2010.
"Jamie Buhrer has been a terrific player for Manly in his 128 first grade games and this opportunity gives him a chance to extend his career at a new club," Barrett said.
The Knights praised 26-year-old Buhrer's experience and utility value.
"Jamie is a natural footballer and a player that covers a number of positions," Knights coach Nathan Brown said.
"Importantly Jamie is a mature player and will help with the growth of our younger players.
"Jamie is a good leader, trainer and talker, and will be an important addition to our squad.
"He knows what is required to win and what it takes to win a grand final; he really comes to Newcastle with great experience."
