Mounties snapped the Newtown Jets' four-game winning streak to remain unbeaten after seven rounds and set up a blockbuster top-of-the-table clash between two of the competition's heavyweight contenders.
In their respective Round 7 matches, Mounties outclassed the Jets 24-8 in dramatic fashion while Penrith overran the New Zealand Warriors 34-20 after trailing 16-6 thanks to Will Smith's dominant performance in the halves.

It was one of the biggest upsets on record in the VB NSW Cup as the North Sydney Bears pounded the third-placed Wyong Roos at North Sydney oval. In his VB NSW Cup coaching debut, Ben Gardiner led the last-placed North Sydney Bears to a shock 32-4 thrashing that no-one could have predicted. Cody Walker and Darren Nicholls were sensational in the Bears' deserved victory.
The Manly Sea Eagles also recorded their second win of the season. Manly outmuscled the Canterbury Bulldogs 18-14 on Friday night at ANZ Stadium as they desperately try to resurrect their season. It's a bitter disappointment for the Bulldogs who failed to consolidate a top-four position. It was their second consecutive defeat against another lowly opponent after falling to the Wentworthville Magpies in Round 6.
The Illawarra Cutters provided their best performance of the season so far to claim an impressive 24-14 victory over the Wests Tigers. The Cutters recorded their second win of the season and sit one win outside the top eight. Clinging to eighth spot, the Wests Tigers slumped to their fourth consecutive loss to send them back to the drawing boards in a desperate bid to quickly turn around what had been a promising start to the season.
The Magpies almost pulled off another remarkable upset victory against the Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium. Wentworthville seemed to have capped back-to-back victories when they led 22-12 before the Knights scored two late tries to steal a thrilling 25-22 victory.
