Jordan Kahu is quickly gaining a reputation as the NRL's most versatile player.
Initially signed to Brisbane as a five-eighth, Kahu has transformed himself into a backline maestro, playing every position from 1 to 6.
The Harvey Norman World All Stars are the latest side to reap the rewards of having the jack-of-all-trades in their squad.
Kahu will start at fullback following the withdrawal of Warriors star Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.
The 25-year-old New Zealand international says he is delighted to have received a call-up to the starting side.
"I'm pretty excited to just be picked in the squad and now a few of the boys have pulled out I'll get the opportunity to play fullback and I'm very happy with it," said Kahu.
"Fullback is my preferred position as I grew up playing there in rugby union and therefore it was probably the easiest position for me to switch over to when I came to playing rugby league – I feel pretty comfortable back there."
It is a credit to the character of Kahu that he has even played rugby league at the top level.
After suffering three consecutive severe knee injuries it appeared his NRL dream might be over.
This was not the case as Kahu persevered through mental and physical torture to become one of the Broncos' most consistent performers.
He will now take the field as one of the best in the world in what will be just 24 months since his last serious injury lay-off.
Kahu is proud of what he has become as a player and a person as he prepares for Saturday's Harvey Norman All Stars game at Suncorp Stadium.
"It's worked out pretty well for me that I can play in other positions," said Kahu.
"If I was just able to play one position then I probably wouldn't have been able to represent my country and I might not have been able to play in this team.
"It's something I work on in pre-season and I try and train in all different positions just in case I'm needed somewhere else."
Kahu showcased his wide array of skills on New Zealand's tour of England, playing at centre just a few weeks after starting on the wing for Brisbane in their crushing 17-16 Telstra Premiership Grand Final loss to the North Queensland Cowboys.
Kahu hopes the experience of the tour will help him add even more strings to his bow as he looks to try and help Brisbane go one better in 2016.
"It was a really good tour with an awesome bunch of boys," said Kahu.
"I got along really well with the group and personally I came out of the trip with a lot more confidence in myself and my playing ability.
"Last year I relied a lot on teammates to create something for me – this year I'll work as hard as possible at becoming a player who creates opportunities for my teammates.
"Our end goal as a team at Brisbane this year will be to go one better and I think we are all pretty hungry as we begin working towards that goal."
