With the fallout from Matt Elliott’s resignation still lingering, thoughts have turned to who will be entrusted with the Warriors clipboard for the remainder of the season.

Online betting agency sportsbet.com.au has released an early market on who will be named the New Zealand club’s next permanent coach, installing current Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane as a short priced $1.50 favourite to take on the mantle.

Wane, a former prop for the English superpower, has no NRL coaching experience but did serve under current South Sydney mentor Michael Maguire when he coached at the club in between 2009 and 2011.

Wane has since led the Warriors to the Super League and Challenge Cup double last season, as well as the pre-season Club Challenge loss to the Roosters in Sydney during February.

Former Raiders, Eels and Melbourne half Andrew McFadden, who joined Elliott’s staff in 2013, will act as head coach of the club for the remainder of the year and is listed at $3.25 to retain the role next season.

Current St. Helens mentor and former Dragons coach Nathan Brown, who has been linked to a number of opportunities since leaving the NRL in 2008, is also in the mix at $4.50, ahead of Kangaroos coach and veteran of over 700 first grade games Tim Sheens at $7.

Other notable contenders for the role include former Warriors assistant and player favourite Tony Iro ($11), Neil Henry ($15) and Jason Taylor ($17).

While the Warriors have long been regarded as one of the most talented sides in the competition, the club has a troubled history when it comes to coaching staff, with John Monie, Daniel Anderson and Brian McClennan all being sacked mid-season by the New Zealand outfit.
