Greg Inglis’s barnstorming performance on Sunday against the Eels cemented his spot amongst the competitions elite fullbacks. But with Ben Barba an odds on favourite for the Dally M, Brett Stewart continuing his try-scoring spree at Brookvale Oval and Billy Slater returning to his best, just who is the most valuable fullback in the game?
Tonight on NRL Daily, host John Gibbs is joined by rugby league stats guru David Middleton and journalist Brent Read to debate the issue of the game’s best fullback and other hot topics in our weekly ‘Voice of Reason’ segment.
“On last week’s performance you’d have to say Greg Inglis is the best,” says Gibbs. “The week before that though you’d say Ben Barba... it changes every week and goes in cycles.
“At the start of the year we were saying Billy Slater is the best thing since the pop-up toaster. He got injured in Origin and Inglis and Barba have stepped up and taken his mantle.
“Brett Stewart is key to Manly’s chances, every break that gets made he’s the one there to finish it.
“Oh, and what about the little fella at the Cowboys, Matt Bowen? It is no coincidence that the five best fullbacks in the game are from the top five teams.”
