For six years we were all used to seeing Jamie Buhrer in his beloved Manly headgear, channelling Sea Eagles legend Steve Menzies in the forward pack on Sydney's northern beaches.
The 27-year-old's move to the Knights came as a shock to many Sea Eagles fans after a trade-deal was struck between he and former Australian international Akuila Uate over the off-season.
While the Sea Eagles' loss is the Knights gain, Buhrer now finds himself donning a red and blue headgear, and for Friday night's clash against the Panthers, a special design in particular is on the agenda.
With Round 4 of the Telstra Premiership celebrating marvel round, Buhrer has teamed up with his own sporting brand for a limited edition design to match the Iron Patriot jersey the Knights will run onto the field with at Pepper Stadium.
Similar to the generous acts of Cowboys skipper Johnathan Thurston handing over his headgear to children, Buhrer is playing his part by offloading the piece of memorabilia to a Knights fan in the crowd after the game.
On Friday night however, he will be holding onto the one-off marvel design but explained the reasoning behind the decision, with a special auction planned.
"After every game, I try and seek out a young fan… and give away my headgear," Buhrer told Knights TV.
"With such a special occasion and being the Marvel round, we thought we’d take the opportunity to have an auction for charity with all the proceeds going to the Mark Hughes Foundation.
"Mark Hughes and his foundation are really important to the Newcastle area… it helps a lot of people.
"It has touched the lives of a lot of people very close to the club and Newcastle as a town.
"I just thought the jerseys themselves are really cool and they are very popular among the fan base.
"It’s obviously not something too new among the NRL players that wear headgear but it’s something that myself and Paladin Sports thought would be a good idea.
"It matches with our marvel uniform this weekend and Paladin were able to come up with what is a really cool design.
"Being a fan myself once and going to games, every bit of memorabilia that I could get my hands on I would definitely cherish, so it’s something small I can do for the community."
Meanwhile, the Knights have lost fullback Brendan Elliot for their clash with the Panthers due to concussion protocol.
English recruit Joe Wardle or front-rower Josh King will replace the former Rooster in Nathan Brown's side, with a backline reshuffle now expected for the Novocastrians come kick-off. Peter Mata'utia is likely to take the fullback role.
