St George Illawarra hooker Cameron McInnes has signed a contract extension for a further three seasons, keeping him at the Dragons until 2021.

McInnes had been off contract at the end of the 2018 season but has committed his future to the club, with fellow playmaker Gareth Widdop having also re-signed through to 2021 and new signing Ben Hunt locked in until 2022.

The 23-year-old rake was the NRL's leading tackler in 2017 and made his representative debut for City Origin this year.

"I've only been here for 12 months but it's been the best year of my footy life. It was a no-brainer for me and I wanted to stay for as long as I could. It's going to be good moving forward knowing that I have that stability," McInnes said.

"This is just the beginning. I really want to work harder towards bigger and better things. For us I think the top four is in reach for us so I just need to keep playing the best footy I can."
