NRL State of Mind has partnered with The Sunday Telegraph, headspace and the Black Dog Institute for a series of free regional forums around youth mental health.
The 'Can We Talk' forums aim to assist parents in recognising when something is wrong and also provide information about support services in the community so they know when and how to take action.
The forums are in response to parents who have said they don't know how to recognise signs of mental illness in their children or know where to turn. The forums are also part of a wider campaign by The Sunday Telegraph to help break the stigma surrounding mental health.
The Newcastle forum will be held at Panthers Newcastle on Tuesday, September 15 from 6.00pm.
The forum will feature a panel of experts and people with experience in mental health to answer questions from the audience.
The Newcastle panel includes Dr Tyler Schofield from headspace, Associate Professor Adam Guastella from Sydney University and Nic Brown, who will share his own experience.
NRL State of Mind Ambassadors at the forum include Tariq and Ruan Sims, and Adam MacDougall.
The forum is free but you need to register in advance.
On the day of the forum the NRL will be visiting local high schools to deliver a headspace program. The schools include San Clemente High School, Callaghan College Waratah and Callaghan College Wallsend.
