Damien Cook came into the team when Adam Reynolds pulled out 30 minutes before kick-off.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have announced a two-year contract extension for hooker Damien Cook until the end of the 2019 season.

An explosive hooker, Cook joined the Rabbitohs in October of 2015 and went on to represent the Rabbitohs 17 times in 2016. He made 462 tackles, 15 offloads and was handy with his boot – kicking seven goals and 21 times in open play for 554 kick metres.

Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire was happy with Cook's decision to remain in the Red & Green until the end of season 2019. Maguire pointed to Cook's professionalism and growth as a football player as signs that a big future lies ahead for Damien Cook.

"Damien Cook is a true professional when it comes to his footy," said Maguire.

"The dedication he displays on the field and during training has really seen him evolve as a player. The combinations he's formed within the team and the skill we saw from Cook at the back end of this season comes directly from that determination he has.

"I'm really excited about what we will see from Cook in the coming seasons as he continues to improve his game."
