Parramatta Eels legend Brett Kenny has mixed emotions about speculation the club could be recruiting Wests Tigers five-eighth Mitchell Moses for the remainder of the season and beyond.
A former No.6 himself, Kenny insisted Moses would boost the struggling Eels outfit but suggested he was not worth the price tag he has reportedly been offered.
He also questioned Moses's ability in defence, and expressed his concerns about contracted players leaving clubs mid-season.
"[Moses is] a quality player but I don't know whether I would be giving him the amount of money that was mentioned in the paper a few weeks ago," Kenny told the media at the Eels' 70th anniversary jersey launch on Tuesday.
"The only thing he might have to work on is his defence, his defence is not that strong, but his attacking skills are outstanding.
"I don't think he's worth that much but he's certainly a good young player."
In an awkward scenario, Moses is set to line-up for the Wests Tigers against the Eels on Easter Monday and Kenny was not a fan of the possibility that the Parramatta junior could then link with Brad Arthur's side a week later.
"To me it's getting more like you don't need to sign a contract anymore because contracts mean nothing and I just think it's wrong," Kenny said.
"I would rather him see out the season at the Tigers and come to Parramatta in 2018 and start the season fresh.
"That's the way I'd like to see it done. I just think it's wrong for players to just shift from one club to another mid-year."
However, Kenny admitted the pressure on playmaker Corey Norman was beginning to show after four straight losses, and said if Moses was to link with the club immediately the Eels halfback would be the first to benefit.
"I think at the moment there's a lot of pressure on Corey Norman, he's the guy that they look to and it makes it easier for the defence [of the opposition] as well," Norman said.
"Having someone like Mitchell, who's been a regular five-eighth, playing is going to help Corey.
"[Opposition teams] start to look at [Norman] and say 'we've only got to get him out of the game' and Parramatta can't do anything.
"If you've got someone like Moses on the other side who's very creative as well, suddenly there's two sides they've got to worry about.
"Obviously it would be a plus for Parramatta to have someone like that in the side."
Meanwhile, Norman wasn't giving much away when asked about the likelihood of partnering Moses in the near future with the Parramatta's current predicament of four consecutive defeats taking priority.
"[Moses is] young and exciting so it would be good [to see him here]," Norman said.
"If he comes it would be great but at the moment we're just focussed on winning Monday.
"It would be weird [if he was released after the game] but we're looking forward to playing the Tigers and at the moment we've just got to worry about Monday and winning the game.
"We've just been playing really patchy and that lack of concentration is really hurting us at the moment."
