Cronulla Sharks and NSW captain Paul Gallen was charged on Tuesday by the NRL Match review committee, but will escape suspension if he takes the early guilty plea.

Gallen was charged with a grade 1 dangerous contact for his use of a knee in a tackle on Rabbitohs forward Dave Taylor in the 4th minute of the Sharks 34-28 loss to South Sydney at ANZ Stadium.

Gallen will be available to take on the Melbourne Storm at Toyota Park on Sunday afternoon if he takes the early guilty plea.

It is welcome news for the Sharks, with their captain today also cleared of a serious knee injury after he left the field early in last night’s six point loss.
