He has scored five tries in just four matches since making his NRL debut in Round 8, but Rabbitohs rookie Aaron Gray is just getting started.

The 21-year-old was a key factor in South Sydney's 14-12 tight victory over the Eels on Friday night, crossing the white stripe twice.

"Definitely it's a good start to my career," Gray said.

"Hopefully we can just keep putting [tries] on and hopefully I can keep turning up in the right spots and keep finishing those plays off for the boys."

Gray wasn't the only young gun to step up for the Rabbitohs in their gritty victory, with youngsters Cameron McInnes and Nathan Brown joining Gray on coach Michael Maguire's list of big performers.

Gray praised his side's spirit in coming back late to steal victory.

"Cammo [Cameron McInnes] played really well so did Browny [Nathan Brown], who came on and brought a lot of energy from the bench," Gray said.

"We made it hard on ourselves but it was definitely good to pull it together in the second half, we found a way to win which was really good."

"We just wanted to complete our sets and build pressure. We didn't do that too good in the first half but we started to kick better in the second half and started to build a few repeat sets which was good and we saw it came together so we had to stick to our game plan and we knew we'd come out with the result."

South Sydney's victory was the first time the side had won without Adam Reynolds since the diminutive half debuted in 2012, however Gray said it was a non issue for the Redfern based club.

"I haven't paid too much attention to that," he said. "It's just good to get the win in general with or without Adam, we trust anyone who comes into the team to do the job for us."
