Australian Rugby League Commissioner, Professor Megan Davis has been elected a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Science in Australia (ASSA).

The Fellowship has been awarded in recognition of Professor Davis' contribution to the advancement of social science knowledge.

The ASSA co-ordinates the promotion of research, teaching and advice in social service disciplines such as history, law, political science, social medicine, psychology, education, history and law.

It also provides advice to government on issues of national importance.

ARLC Chairman John Grant said it was a huge honour for Professor Davis.

"Professor Davis is already one of the most highly regarded constitutional lawyers in the country, was recently appointed Pro Vice Chancellor Indigenous at UNSW and has been hailed for her work internationally in human rights," Mr Grant said.

"To be awarded such a prestigious fellowship now recognises her leadership in the social sciences.

"Professor Davis has already brought a new perspective to the Commission, combined with a real love of Rugby League.

"The Commission congratulates her on this honour."
