Fresh from scoring the match-winning try in his side's pulsating 24-22 win over the Broncos in Friday night's qualifying final, Roosters centre Latrell Mitchell was quick to distance himself from comparisons to Rabbitohs star Greg Inglis.
His comments aren't new – he's made it clear that he wants to step out of his idol's shadow and become his own man – but it's becoming harder and harder to ignore, especially when teammates are fuelling the fire.
Roosters recruit Luke Keary won a premiership with Inglis at South Sydney in 2014 and can see plenty of similarities between the two from their physical attributes to their uncanny ability to create something out of nothing in attack.
"Physically [they're] very similar. They're both big, strong, [with] left-hand carries, right-hand fends," Keary said.
"I guess their attitudes are very similar too; they both work really hard and they're quality players. GI (Inglis) has been around for a long time and done a lot for the game while it's Latrell's second year. Physically, their attributes are very similar."
Keary has floated on both sides of the field this season but has spent the majority of attacking plays on the left edge next to Mitchell who has been a beast at centre or further out on the wing.
The 20-year-old has never shied away from the big moments and unsurprisingly came up with the crucial play on Friday when he produced a huge fend on Broncos counterpart James Roberts to give his side the lead with five minutes remaining.
It was eerily reminiscent of a young Inglis who scored the match-sealing try in his first finals match back in 2005 against who else but the Broncos.
"I've got to play next to him all year so it's cool being able to watch him from when I first met him in the pre-season to what he's been able to do for us during the year," Keary said of Mitchell.
"I'm really impressed with him; defensively he was really strong and it's something that he prides himself on and then he came up with that big play for us in attack. We all know that he can do it, but to be able to do it in those big games is pretty special.
"With all those big outside backs, it's good that something like that happens for them every now and then just to spark them into that confidence they get. GI used to do it. He'd come up with those big plays in big games and it just starts rolling for them."
