After another NRL round filled with upsets and big results, the race for the top eight is as open as ever. The Titans make their way into the list of September-bound teams in place of the out-of-sorts Wests Tigers, while the Dragons and the Knights have made it clear they won't be going down without a fight.
Tonight on NRL Daily, John Gibbs and rugby league legend Brad Fittler wrap up all the weekend action and offer their analysis on the teams battling for the final positions in the top eight.
The Dragons have spent much of the year teetering just outside the eight but their upset victory over the Melbourne Storm has put them on everyone's radar. Currently it is only a poor for-and-against record that is keeping them from finals glory. Fittler applauds Dragons coach Steve Price on the decision to put Brett Morris back on the wing, not because of his ability in attack but because he is "the most potent weapon the Dragons have in defence".
"Brett Morris' speed means that when teams attack his side in defence they need to be prepared to defend in case of errors," Fittler says on NRL Daily.
"On Friday night his presence, skill, and speed turned a textbook Billy Slater cut-out pass into a Dragons four-pointer, 95 metres up the other end of the field. Later in the game, working in unison with aggression from Ben Hornby, he pounced on a loose Cooper Cronk pass and again ran 90 metres to score at the other end of the park.
"Two big plays from the Dragons winger at moments when the side was being threatened on their own line.
"Don't forget that the two players we are talking about, Slater and Cronk, are considered amongst the best ball players in the world and don't forget what he did two weeks ago against the Sharks off a Todd Carney pass, also a world class ball player!
"Brett Morris has made it very clear that if you are going to attack his side, you better have a contingency plan in case you stuff up because it doesn't matter where you are on the field, he can turn it into four points for the Dragons in a matter of seconds."
