2010 Telstra Premiership Grand Final referee Shayne Hayne has today been announced as referee of the international match between Country Rugby League and the Cook Islands in Tamworth this Saturday (October 16).

CRL CEO Terry Quinn said the appointment was a huge boost for the profile of the game, which will also see local country touch judges (James Brown and Michael Lace) have the chance to work with an NRL referee.

“Shane continues to be one of the leading referees in the game and we are pleased he is able to control the International match in Tamworth,” Quinn said.

“He is a highly respected official and we look forward to welcoming him to Country.”

As well as being a former country rugby league player with the Muswellbrook Rams in Group 21, Hayne has had several years of recent involvement with the CRL in his role as Director of Referees for the Central Coast competition where he oversees all training and appointments for officials on the coast.
