St George Illawarra Dragons’ Michael Weyman is on the road to recovery and hoping to return in time for the beginning of the NRL 2011 season.

The front rower had been nursing an ongoing groin injury for the majority of last season before undergoing two bouts of surgery during the break to alleviate the problem.

Weyman, 26, has been largely training on his own thus far throughout the pre-season but remains positive about his progress and is hopeful of returning to train with the full squad in the near future.

“The injury’s coming along well and at the moment I feel really good,” he said.

“Towards the end of last year I was flat-out walking and not playing but it’s all fixed now and I’m feeling pretty good.

“The coaching staff has got plans in place [concerning] my progress but we keep taking it day by day.

“I’m hoping by the start of the season.”

While the majority of his break involved visits to the operating theatre, the Dragons’ enforcer also found time to get married and spend some time away with his new wife.

“I got married in between operation and it worked out well in the end,” said the newlywed.

“I had one operation before getting married, then had the honeymoon and returned for the other operation.”
