Sydney Roosters and Kiwi front rower Frank Paul Nuuausala has extended his stay with the Tri-Colours until the end of 2013 after inking a two year extension on his current deal.

Having joined the club in 2007 and making his NRL debut in the same year, the Auckland born prop has become one of the stand out players within the squad of high profile names and was a key player in the club’s surge to a grand final in 2010.

Nuuausala arrived in Sydney at the end of 2006 after playing for the New Zealand Warriors from the age of 14. Now just 23, he has played over 50 NRL games and has represented his country for the past two years.

His signing sees the club retain one of a number of young players who are coming off contract at the end of this season.

Brian Smith has been impressed with Nuuausala since starting with the Club and sees him as a future leader within the Roosters and a mentor for other young Polynesian forwards.

“Frank Paul has always had the football talent but his personal development over the past season has been something that has really impressed us all at the Roosters,” said Smith.

“He has gone from being the young, quiet kid in the corner to someone who the younger players look up to, which is a pretty big deal for a 23 year old.

“He has come out of himself and the confidence he has in his own ability is really showing now both in his on field performances but also with the way he helps some of our younger players off the field.

“He has a lot of life experience that he can call on to help these young kids and to have him here for the next few seasons will be great for both our team and our club.”

Nuuausala is equally as happy to have his future secured at the club.

“This has been my home for the last four years and I am happy to be here for at least another three years,” said Nuuausala.

“This club has been good for me and what we achieved last year was really great. But that was last year and now we need to focus on the 2011 season and going one better.”

Nuuausala will likely begin his 2011 campaign against the Wests Tigers in the club’s final trial on Saturday February 26 at the Sydney Football Stadium.
