The bone-rattling hits and jaw-dropping tries kept coming in Round 2, with Melbourne, South Sydney and Brisbane figuring prominently in both categories.

Broncos winger Jharal Yow Yeh earned himself a defensive nomination with his scything try-saver on Raiders opposite Daniel Vidot in the 46th minute of their clash at Canberra Stadium, and 15 minutes later provided a highlights reel moment with a smart kick and chase four-pointer down the right flank.

It was a case of ‘saving Titan Ryan’ when Storm lock Ryan Hinchcliffe sacked Gold Coast interchange Ryan James as he took a charge 12 metres from the Storm line midway through the first half.

Earlier Anthony Quinn was the recipient of some dazzling kick control from halfback Cooper Cronk, who chipped and then soccered the ball wide for the winger to regather and score.

And shortly before halftime fullback Billy Slater bamboozled the defence with a 62-metre solo dash from dummy-half, turning opposition fullback Preston Cambell inside out on the way.

Krisnan Inu also scored a dramatic four-pointer from dummy-half in the Warriors’ game against the Wests Tigers, having miraculously kept the ball in play with a last-ditch fling before heading over the sideline. The winger then showed great vision to seize the initiative and defy Benji Marshall and Wade McKinnon down an extremely tight blindside.

Kieran Foran rounded out the week’s best tries with a stunning wraparound effort that made the most of a smart Tony Williams offload to score a decisive four-pointer against the Roosters.

The Rabbitohs might not be making much of an impression on the competition table but their big forwards sure are causing a few aches and pains. Big Dave Taylor nailed Bulldogs prop Sam Kasiano with a classic shoulder charge in the 25th minute of their game, while Roy Asotasi put Bryson Goodwin in reverse with a sensational low, driving tackle midway through the second half.

Last but by no means least, Sharks Kade Snowden and Jeremy Smith combined to put Dragons prop Dan Hunt in Disneyland with a forceful hit midway through the first half of their win at Toyota Stadium.
