A “tremendous achievement” is how Cowboys coach Neil Henry today described Matthew Bowen’s soon-to-be record for the most number of NRL games played for the Cowboys.

When the 29-year-old fullback runs out on to Parramatta Stadium on Saturday night he will break the club record of 203 games held by Paul Bowman, who retired at the end of the 2007 season.

Bowen started his first grade career with the Cowboys in 2001 and will surpass Bowman’s mark despite suffering two serious knee injuries.

He already holds the record for the most number of tries for North Queensland and added another two in the 34-6 win against Melbourne on Monday night.

“He’s been a wonderful servant for the club over a number of years,” Henry said of his fullback.
