At just 22-years of age, and only 11 NRL first-grade games under his belt, Gareth Widdop’s career is beginning to blossom.

However, his journey to Melbourne has been a long and winding one – after all, he’s travelled over 15,000km just to be here.

The former fullback and now inspired five-eighth spent his childhood in the north of England – Halifax, to be exact – before moving to Australia with his family at the age of 16.

“About five years ago my parents and I emigrated out here, which was one of the best moves that’s ever happened to be honest,” Widdop said.

“I still miss home a little, but I’ve settled down here and I’ve got a young family in Melbourne so I’m really enjoying it.”
