How you can wave the flag in Grand Final Week
Want to be a part of the biggest week on the NRL calendar?
Here’s how you can show your passionate support for rugby league by waving the flag at the many awesome events scheduled in Sydney during Grand Final Week.
The festivities kick off this Sunday when the Sydney Harbour Bridge is lit up after dusk with giant, iconic Grand Final and player moments emblazoned across its southern pylon. Get down to the harbour foreshore to see who this year’s Harbour Bridge Giants will be (the light show will continue right through to the evening of the Grand Final).
Tuesday is reserved for the teams participating in the 2011 Grand Final to beat the drum and showcase their club’s activities in their local communities. Check out the teams’ websites for more details on the scheduled celebrations and how you can participate!
Thursday sees both Grand Final teams eye each other off at the hugely popular and traditional Grand Final Breakfast at the Sydney Exhibition and Convention Centre at Darling Harbour. If you can’t make it there to see the teams assemble amid the stars of today and yesteryear, perch yourself in front of the television and watch Fox Sport’s live coverage from 7am.
Also on Thursday, head to Tumbalong Park at Darling Harbour to join in the fun and excitement of the 2011 Grand Final Fans Party, where a series of massive events and activities will further fuel your passion just days out from the decider.
The 2011 Grand Final Fans Party starts at 9am with free rugby league clinics, autograph sessions and more, culminating in a special live Grand Final edition of The Footy Show followed by a massive fireworks spectacular. It’s part of the NRL’s ongoing commitment to provide rugby league fans with a greater opportunity in Grand Final week to become involved in the excitement of the big game.
On Friday, the hugely popular school holidays Telstra Kids To Kangaroos mass clinic kicks off at Homebush Bay’s Athletics Centre, as well as at ANZ Stadium. Around 800 boys and girls aged 8-13 will get the thrill of their lives as they are treated to the once-in-a-lifetime (or is it?) experience of running out onto ANZ Stadium through a tunnel of NRL club cheerleaders and mascots, with an on-field Grand Final experience that includes a lap of honour with the Telstra Premiership Trophy!
And then there’s NRL Grand Final Day itself…
Grand Final Day at ANZ Stadium swings into action with all the colour and excitement of the interactive Grand Final Precinct – and this year it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.
Be there when the precinct gates open at 11am when you will experience high-energy stage-led activities (a first for 2011) including music, entertainers, comedians and cheer squad displays.
The special NRL Stage, located at the Forest of Poles, will include performances from bands Slow Down Honey (2.30pm) and Tonight Alive (3.30pm).
Other fun-filled highlights include NRL trivia, a Q&A with NRL Ambassadors and signings, a super rugby league skills clinic, Telstra Hero Messages, face painting, roving entertainers and Mascot meet-and-greets.
There’s something for all the family in the countdown to the decider!
