Sea Eagles win One Community NRL Club of the Year award
The Telstra Premiership Grand Final may still be six days away, but already the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles have secured their first prize for the week after taking out the Telstra One Community NRL Club Program of the Year Award.
The Manly club secured the award for their Sea Eagles Reads reading program, which uses NRL players as mentors and tutors in weekly reading sessions in public, catholic and independent primary schools.
The activity has now been built into the team’s weekly schedule and every Tuesday the club visits local schools as part of the program.
As winners of the award, Manly will receive $10,000 from Telstra to further develop their community programs.
Finalists: Brisbane Broncos, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, North Queensland Cowboys, St George Illawarra Dragons, Parramatta Eels, Newcastle Knights, Wests Tigers, Gold Coast Titans, Penrith Panthers, Cronulla Sharks, South Sydney Rabbitohs
