New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) have hosted a League tag gala day in Sydney’s west for Students involved in an integration program being conducted in schools in the area.

Students from Bankstown Senior College, Birrong Boys High School, Punchbowl Boys High School and Sir Joseph Banks High School had the chance to rub shoulders with some local NRL legends, interact with students from other schools and showcase their newly learnt skills on the football field.

The six week program aims to promote the successful and effective cultural integration and social inclusion of Humanitarian Refugees and their families into schools and communities within the Bankstown Region.

Throughout the six weeks, the participants were involved in skills sessions to teach them the fundamentals required for participating in League tag.

Through Rugby League One Community’s ‘Dream, Believe, Achieve’ program the students were also taught about setting themselves goals, how to achieve their dreams, the importance of teamwork and how to lead a healthy life.

The program has had strong support from the local community and NSWRL hope to expand the program further in the future to reach even more emerging communities.
