News that the majority of NRL coaches want to scrap the much-debated golden point rule has stirred up our man with the biggest opinion in the game, Brad “Freddy” Fittler.

In tonight's NRL Daily Fittler unleashes on the coaches for wanting to change the game that the fans love to watch. “It’s not about what the coaches think,” Fittler says. “It’s about the fans and the product.”

Freddy is a fan of golden point. “I love the chaos and the excitement,” he says. “It’s definitely not about luck.

“Anywhere within 50 metres of the posts the attacking team is a threat. That means you are on the edge of your seat for longer periods; you won’t get that with golden try or 10 extra minutes.”

As for the numerous proposals and ideas that have been put forward to change the rules and adjust the points rewarded during extra-time, Fittler doesn't believe any have come close to being a winner.

“I haven’t seen a better answer to determining a winner, says Fittler, who has represented at all levels of the game, including a stint as coach of the Roosters. “I don’t think there is a way to get more emotion out of the game.”
