GIO Cup 2012 runners up Endeavour Sports High will play their first match of the season today on home turf, Shark Park, at 1:20pm.

They will go head-to-head with the current pool three leaders, Matraville Sports High, who are fresh off a 24-16 win to Erindale College last week.

The last time these two schools met was last year when Endeavour defeated Matraville 21-12 to decide who would advance to the semi finals against Queensland team, Keebra Park State High.

Endeavour coach Dave Howlett said his team will not be resting on old laurels.

“We do have quite a few boys back from last year and we do have a lot more depth in the squad… but I’m not really sure if we can emulate what the boys did last year,” he said.

“We have enormous respect for Matraville and that’s our first game so we are just focusing on our first game at this point.”

Matraville are working to the same beat and taking one game at a time.

“We’re not going in overly confident, we know that the team we are playing on Tuesday are very good… so you know we are certainly not looking any further down the track than Tuesday,” Matraville coach Scott Murray said.

“It was good that we got a win [last] Wednesday and that will give us some confidence going into the game but we know we have to raise it certainly another couple of levels to get at Endeavour.”
