The previous meeting between these two clubs this year was the sold-out Anzac Day clash at Allianz Stadium back in Round 7.

The stage was set early as the junior Roosters blew away their opponents in the under-20s competition 54-10, and St George Illawarra started off on the wrong foot as they coughed it up in their first set.

However they still managed to be first to score in just the fourth minute through stand-in fullback Jason Nightingale, but they were blown away thereafter in an hour of merciless professionalism from the Roosters.

Despite statistics for completion rates, errors and total tackles being similar, the Dragons missed twice as many tackles as the Roosters dominated the yardage by 1441 metres to 1176.

After hooker Jake Friend was held up in the 15th minute, second-rower Mitch Aubusson went over straight after. James Maloney came up with his only missed conversion of the afternoon to leave it level at 4-4, but not for long.

Prolific centre Michael Jennings got his name on the scoresheet after 18 minutes as his raw pace left the Dragons backs clutching at thin air before fullback Anthony Minichiello twisted the knife three minutes later, scoring off the back of a Pearce break. Prop Marty Kennedy rubbed salt into the wound when he crashed over shortly before half time to make it 22-0 at the break.

In a less spectacular second half, winger Daniel Tupou put the result beyond doubt with a 51st-minute try on the back of some great lead-up work from Maloney with a chip kick. Jennings iced the cake when he earned a double just past three-quarter time as he raced onto a Jake Friend grubber.

A late consolation try to Matt Cooper did little to add respectability to the 34-10 scorecard.
