Young back-rower Brett Greinke has been released by the Brisbane Broncos to join South Sydney through to the end of 2017.

The 22-year-old played in Sunday's residents representative match for Queensland and is aiming to make his NRL debut with the Rabbitohs.

"We're always looking to recruit quality players and we have done that in bringing Brett to our club," South Sydney coach Maguire said.

"His recruitment bolsters our ranks in the forwards which is always a good thing.

"He's young, hungry for success, and has displayed his willingness to work hard to achieve his goals, so we're looking forward to having him join our squad and pushing for a spot in our top 17."
