Sam Burgess during South Sydney's Round 21 loss to Canberra.

Rabbitohs lock Sam Burgess has been hit with a dangerous contact charge from Sunday's loss to Canberra but can avoid a suspension with an early guilty plea.

Burgess was charged over a 77th-minute tackle on Raiders prop Shannon Boyd.

With the base penalty for the charge reduced to 75 points in the case of an early plea, Burgess is likely to plead guilty and be free to play against the Storm in Melbourne this week.
