Milford opts in: Broncos star seals deal for 2021

Anthony Milford will remain at Brisbane for another 12 months after taking up his contract option for 2021.

NRL.com understands Milford made a call on his immediate future this week, opting to remain with the Broncos after fielding interest from rival clubs.

Next year is the last season of Milford’s multimillion-dollar four-year Broncos deal, which ranked as one of the richest in Red Hill history when he re-signed in 2017.

Milford had until the end of the May to inform the club whether he would recommit or be going to market this year.

Brisbane are yet to make an official announcement on Milford opting in for next season.

The NRL’s recent call to begin registering contracts again amid the COVID-19 pandemic had sparked further enquiries from suitors, with his agent Sam Ayoub recently telling The Courier Mail that "the inquiries about [Milford] have been as much as I’ve ever had about him or any other player I’ve had".

Milford came under fierce criticism for his middling 2019 form, culminating in last September’s brutal 58-0 finals loss to Parramatta.

However, the Samoan international looked in impressive touch during Brisbane’s two wins to start the season.

Milford is one of several big-name Broncos with a player option for 2021, with the injured Jack Bird expected to follow suit and remain at Red Hill next year as well.

Andrew McCullough, Corey Oates and Jake Turpin also have contract options in their favour for next year.
