Young Gympie flyer Carlin Anderson first came to national attention two years ago when he helped the Ipswich Jets to the 2015 Queensland Cup and NRL State Championship titles.
That stellar season earned him an NRL contract with the Brisbane Broncos in 2016 but a serious jaw and facial injury sidelined him for an extended period and he didn’t crack the NRL.
But Cowboys’ Queensland Cup feeder team the Townsville Blackhawks offered Anderson a career, which he took with both hands to turn in a stellar 2017 season which saw him finish the year as the competition’s leading point scorer.
It was a fine year soured by injury as Anderson broke his arm in the Blackhawks’ final regular season game, missing out on the finals campaign.
On the strength of his strong form at Q-Cup level, the Cowboys offered Anderson, a gifted fullback, a two-year deal.
A serious hand injury robbed speedy fullback Carlin Anderson of a huge chunk of his maiden season with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys in 2018.
The 22-year-old tore a hand tendon playing for Cowboys feeder club the Townsville Blackhawks in Round 5 and would not return until Round 17.
Prior to his injury, Anderson had started the season in strong form. The speedster scored 20 points, made up of a try and eight goals, in the Blackhawks season-opening 56-12 victory over Mackay.
