Cronulla Sharks centre Ben Pomeroy has been referred straight to the NRL judiciary after he was charged by the NRL Match Review Committee on Monday.
Pomeroy was referred directly to the judiciary after the match review committee deemed he had made contact with the head of Cowboys’ halfback Johnathan Thurston with his shoulder in the 76th minute of the Sharks 36-22 loss at Toyota Stadium.
The charge comes a week after the ARL Commission had issued a communication to all clubs saying that any player charged with dangerous contact to the head or neck from shoulder charges would be referred straight to the judiciary.
The charge is a blow to Conulla’s finals hopes ahead of their elimination final against the Raiders at Canberra Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Parramatta forward Reni Maitua was slapped with a Grade 2 careless high tackle charge for his tackle on Dragons' forward Josh Miller.
Maitua is facing a two-match suspension for his tackle in the first minute of his side’s 29-8 loss at ANZ Stadium.
Both clubs will have until midday on Tuesday to enter a plea.
