The big news out of the Kangaroos camp on Tuesday was the withdrawal of fullback Billy Slater, who failed to recover from a shoulder injury in time to take his place at custodian for Australia on Friday night.

Slater's omission is likely to see Greg Inglis shift to fullback, with Michael Jennings promoted to the starting side.

Meanwhile, Jillaroos coach Steve Folkes says he's excited by what some of his new players will bring to the women's national side.

Four new players from the Indigenous All Stars team have been included in the Jillaroos squad, and Folkes can't wait to see what the young stars can do on the big stage.

Late on Day 1, players from Samoa, Tonga, PNG and Fiji assembled on the Gold Coast ahead of Saturday's Pacific Test double header.
