Sharks give back to community

While training hard and attempting to maintain their lofty position on top of the NYC ladder was certainly one focus for the Sharks Under-20’s team this week, they also found time to give back to the community with a visit to the Royal Children’s Hospital at Randwick.

In an initiative arranged by Sharks Holden Cup coach John Morris, the NYC squad, including 30 players as well as coaching and support staff, used their bye week constructively in attempting to brighten the days of some sick children and those youngsters battling difficult times.

“Other than those players who have trained with the fulltime squad during the summer, this is probably the first time they’ve been out doing this sort of thing in the community,” Morris said. “It was a chance to do something as a group, while helping the boys to appreciate what they’ve got.

“The boys really enjoyed it and I think the kids they visited did as well.”

The young Sharks spent time in the Starlight Room, undergoing ‘make-overs’ while also showing their musical talents playing instruments and singing with the young patients, before passing through the wards including oncology and intensive care.

Currently three-points clear of their closest rivals in first position on the NYC ladder, the Sharks have a bye this weekend before travelling to the Gold Coast the following week for a Saturday afternoon match-up against the Titans.
