Melbourne's Cameron Smith is in a race against the clock to be fit for his side's season opener against St George Illawarra on Monday night.
The Storm skipper has been forced to endure a restricted pre-season since undergoing off-season ankle surgery in December.
With less than seven days until the club's Round 1 meeting with the Dragons, Smith must complete a full week of training for the first time this year if he is to lead his side onto Jubilee Oval.
"He [Smith] will need to do all the sessions this week," Storm coach Craig Bellamy said.
"He went through a fair bit of it last week and looked quite good. We will just see how he gets through today and announce the team Tuesday afternoon."
The champion hooker took part in Tuesday's training session at Gosch's Paddock and looked to be moving well.
Regardless of how Smith is feeling the coach expects his captain to plead his case for selection.
"At the end of the day he will say he wants to play, there is no doubt about that, he'll say he'll be fine," Bellamy said.
"I'll have to have a chat to the medical staff and we'll go from there. His preparation has been pretty limited, it will be how he gets through the sessions this week."
Veteran Ryan Hinchcliffe has stepped in at hooker during training sessions throughout the summer and will be the likely replacement should Smith hit a roadblock this week.
Besides the No.9 spot Bellamy said that the rest of the line-up is essentially decided for the trip to Jubillee Oval.
The Dragons and Storm split the ledger last season and the threat the home side poses with the football is not lost on the Victorian side.
"I think they were starting to improve towards the end of last year, there is no doubt," Bellamy said.
"They've got a lot of dangerous players with [Josh] Dugan at fullback and [Jason] Nightingale on the wing has always been a dangerous player.
"They are going to be a really dangerous side for us and they have a lot of attacking weapons on that team."
Melbourne will kick of its season against St George Illawarra next Monday night at 7pm.
