Eels coach Brad Arthur reckons his team has hardly done a field goal set at training in the four years he's been through.

‌So it's kind of fortunate they did one in the week leading up to Sunday's tight 17-16 win over Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium.

After the game, Eels coach Brad Arthur admitted his side "got lucky."

"In the four years I've been coaching this club, probably never," was his response when asked how often the team as a whole practises setting up into field goal position.

Never?

"We've done a little bit. Maybe once or twice we have," he conceded.

"I don't know if it was more by chance or luck, but we actually practised a field goal set this week. It didn't look nice, but it got us the point," he added of five-eighth Corey Norman's low-flying skimmer that grazed its way over the crossbar.

"Yeah, we got a bit lucky, the play the ball before it was pretty good."

Norman told NRL.com that original plan was for Moses to take it but with the Tigers defence rushing up, Norman made sure he was in position further back if needed.

"Just with Mitchy, I didn't think his old team were going to let him win the game like that!" Norman laughed.

"I just said 'I'm just here in case you get rushed' and he felt like he got rushed so he passed it to me.

"He's a right footer so we set up on the left post and he passed back to me so it was lucky I got it over."

Moses said the practice the team had done during the week was almost identical to the match situation at the end of Sunday's game.

"I told the boys to get me to the spot on the field and I'd put it over but they had a lot of pressure on me and 'Normy' called it late and I had full faith he was going to knock it over and he did. He's a big-time player," Moses said.

Both players felt their new combination was improving, despite the team overall looking a bit rusty coming off the Round 19 bye.

"Our combination especially the last three weeks, it's been coming along really well," Moses said.

"We probably went away from it a bit [on Sunday] and we should have built a lot more pressure than what we did.

"We had a lot of opportunities, a lot of chances that if the ball goes to hand we score a few more tries but we'll take a bit of confidence out of it to come away with the win."

Norman said the team will need to improve against the Broncos next Friday.

"We'll need to be a lot better. We're never too good coming off byes. It's a short turnaround and we need to turn around quickly," he said.
