Parramatta Eels hooker Nathan Peats has reflected on a mixed game for his team's playmakers after making 59 tackles in a loss to the Rabbitohs on Friday night.

"I thought it had its ups and downs tonight," the 24-year-old told NRL.com about the Eels' new halves, fullback combination.

"It was tough conditions so it was quite hard to get out of dummy half and even run myself when it's wet weather. And it's slow play the balls and it's hard for Chrissy too, to be out the back when we aren't having good opportunities," he said.

"We didn't get much ball in the first half down that end, Souths sort of dominated us with field position so it was quite hard to play off the front foot."

In wet conditions, both teams completed their sets at a reasonable 75 per cent, but unfortunately for the Eels, their errors came at crucial moments.

"We're trying hard but that's not good enough and that's the reason why were not on 10 points," Peats said.

"Costly little errors, always playing off the back foot, never having even ball. We're just not completing at the right time, we're sticking in till the end, obviously that's a good sign."

The Parramatta Eels have now lost four straight to sit outright on the bottom of the NRL ladder, a fact that Peats is not happy about.

"Yeah it's obviously disappointing, we've tried hard the last two weeks and we've fallen very short," he said.

"It's obviously disappointing we could be sitting on 10 points but that's rugby league sometimes, so back to the drawing board and onto next week. We've got a big game next Friday against Penrith."
