Paul Vaughan in the Canberra Raiders Hulk ISC Marvel Heroes jersey.

He won't be donning the Hulk jersey until Round 21 but Raiders prop Paul Vaughan got in on the act a week early to score two powerful tries in an important win over Penrith at Pepper Stadium on Sunday.

Vaughan's first try in particular showcased superhuman strength, as he carried a number of Panthers players towards the line before reaching out and slamming the ball down at full extension.

Vaughan had high praise for his in-form hooker Josh Hodgson who set him up for both four-pointers.

"I got both tries off Hodgo so I've got him to thank for those two tries and I think he was pretty stoked too," the 24-year-old Country Origin representative said.

"It was probably more credit to Hodgo there (than myself), he gave me a couple of good balls, it's pretty easy to just fall over."

Vaughan also credited the crafty English hooker for making all the forwards in the Green Machine pack better players through his smart work out of dummy half.

"Being a front-rower we're not the smartest blokes going around so it's good to have him there," Vaughan said.

"A lot of the forwards have a good combination with Hodgo and he always gets you one-on-one with the defender and that's what you want.

"He always trains 100 per cent, he's a fierce competitor, that's what you need in the team.

"I love playing with Hodgo."

Vaughan also declared where the focus for the Raiders is, immediately after a crucial victory that keeps them well in the hunt for the finals in season 2015.

"It was just relieving to get that win today and it keeps us in the race for the top eight which is good," he said.

"I think every game that we've played in - bar probably one - we've been in it up to our eyes.

"It's just relieving to win a game like that. It was pretty scrappy defence but it was just good to get the monkey off our back and now we prepare for Cowboys up in Townsville.

"All the boys will be pretty pumped for that game."
