Winger Antonio Winterstein has been named in the North Queensland Cowboys team to take on the Warriors this week despite leaving the field early in the Cowboys' victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Round 19.
Scans of Winterstein's calf revealed a small injury, which confirmed the diagnosis given by the medical staff during the game. The early finish to the match for the winger may have saved the injury from becoming worse, but he will still need to train successfully if he is to play this weekend.
"It's not too bad, there's definitely something there but it's not too bad so we'll just monitor how he goes through the week and then make a decision later in the week," Green said.
"[The Cowboys' medical staff] weren't that concerned from the outset, I think it was more around if we left him out there then you do run that risk of doing something far more significant and then he would be out for an extended period."
Green is also putting full faith in the decision of his medical staff, and is confident that the Cowboys won't have a repeat of Lachlan Coote's return, when the fullback re-injured his calf in his first game back.
"I think our medical staff are very experienced so I've got full confidence they'll make the right decision," he said.
"We'll just push him as he goes, do as much as he can each day and try and progress that towards the back end of the week. Eventually we'll get to a point where we'll know he'll either be able to play or he won't."
There are two likely substitutes for Winterstein if he does need to rest his calf, and they'll serve the Cowboys well having stepped into the team earlier in the year.
"Javid [Bowen] or Kalyn [Ponga]. We'll have a look and see what style of game we want and make a decision later in the week if we have to. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it," Green said.
If Winterstein does prove his fitness the game against the Warriors will have the Cowboys fielding the same 17 for the fourth week in a row, as they chase their fourth consecutive win.
