29. Game Three, 1988
First Qld clean sweep
Queensland were dominant in every aspect of the 1988 series, mirroring their counterparts efforts two years earlier to sweep the series 3-0 for the first time. Despite entering Game One without talismanic skipper Wally Lewis, who had recorded eight Man of the Match awards in 21 matches, for the first time in Origin history, pint-sized halfback Allan Langer turned in a vintage two-try performance of his own to lead the Maroons to a 26-18 win at the new Sydney Football Stadium. Having wrapped up the series with a 16-6 win on home turf, Queensland then put the Blues to the sword in Game Three with seven tries, including a double to big Slammin' Sam Backo.
