Confidence key for injured Milford

Brisbane Broncos five-eighth Anthony Milford insists he has full confidence in his injured shoulder despite needing surgery at season's end.

Milford is playing out the season injured after dislocating his left shoulder during his side's Round 14 victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

He returned in Round 19 and has played three games since, with coach Wayne Bennett admitting his star five-eighth was only a 50/50 chance of making it through each week.

Despite that daunting proposition Milford is staying focused on his football, telling media he can ill afford to worry about his shoulder as the Broncos look to earn a spot in the NRL's top four.

"It's not too bad. I think that the more I worry about it, the more it plays on my head so I don't let any of that come into consideration," Milford said.

"[I get past that] by having confidence in myself, as well as the full support of the medical staff that we have here looking after my shoulder.

"I guess I have to be accountable for it and do what I need to at recovery. All these things play a part in it."

Milford is coming off arguably his worst game of the season, struggling against the Parramatta Eels as his side went down 28-14 at ANZ Stadium.

The 23-year-old ran for just 49 metres in that match, his third-lowest total of the season.

But Milford's confidence remains intact despite that disappointing performance and he has the perfect opportunity to play himself back into form when Brisbane face the struggling Gold Coast Titans this weekend.

In Brisbane's Round 7 clash against the Titans earlier this year Milford ran for a season-high 218 metres and he is keen to dish out a similar dose of attacking brilliance on Saturday night.

"My form's not too bad. Last week was a backwards step but I'm looking to go again Saturday night," he said.
