The NRL held its final Harmony Festival Gala day on Friday at Merrylands Oval for 150 students who have participated in the ‘In League In Harmony’ (ILIH) social inclusion program over the past six weeks.
The In League In Harmony program aims to promote social cohesion by tackling issues such as social disengagement, racism, gender inequality and bullying.
Program participants took part in theoretical and activity based lessons, all designed to develop both their rugby league and interpersonal skills by acknowledging, appreciating and celebrating the diversity amongst their peers and the wider community.
The gala day saw students participating in a series of interactive themed messages connected with the NRL’s values of ‘teamwork’ and ‘inclusiveness’
NRL ambassador Joe Galuvao also oversaw youth participating in non-competitive NRL league tag games to celebrate the occasion.
A presentation was conducted following the on field activities, with certificates awarded to all participants for showcasing positive attitudes and active participation and contribution.
