The National Rugby League has called for an urgent meeting with the Cronulla Board.
In advance of that meeting, the NRL has also called for a full report from the club, to be provided by noon tomorrow, detailing all aspects of its termination settlement with a female employee last year and an answer to other media claims made today.
The NRL has already this week involved senior NRL staff in a review of the club’s financial situation and marketing operations.
“The issues have reached a point where we need to meet with the Cronulla Board itself,” NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, said today.
“Cronulla is an important area for the game. The club’s fans and its sponsors need to see some decisive steps taken.
“In the meantime, no Rugby League player should need a reminder about the responsibilities they face in projecting a positive and professional image for themselves, their club and the game of Rugby League.
“We will continue to work with the game’s sponsors to reinforce the importance of our education programmes, of the resolve we expect from our clubs in this area and of our ongoing commitment to disciplinary action where appropriate. I would add that I have been heartened by the support we have received from a number of key sponsors in regard to this approach.”
