Wests Tigers recorded a commanding 38-28 victory over equal leaders Melbourne Storm today at Olympic Park in round 15 of the Toyota Cup competition.

Strong games by five-eighth Robert Lui and second-rower Jason Schirnack saw the sixth placed Wests Tigers move to 19 competition points.

Melbourne opened the scoring in the fourth minute when second-rower Rob Rochow scored a simple try down the left edge for a 4-0 lead. Full-back Gareth Widdop failed to convert the try.

Wests Tigers hit back five minutes later when a great short ball by five-eighth Robert Lui saw second-rower Jason Schirnack cross for his 10th try of the season to be the team’s leading tryscorer. Full-back Jake Mullaney, who went into the match as the team’s leading pointscorer with 104 points, converted the try for a 6-4 lead.

Some good work by Lui saw him offload to centre Jake Clarke for winger Monikura Tikinau to be held up over the line in the 12th minute.
