NSW Origin five-eighth Trent Barrett believes the Storm will have to survive a 60 minute, Origin-like onslaught from the Brisbane Broncos if they hope to progress to the NRL grand final this Saturday night.

An eight time Origin representative, Barrett predicted the Broncos would implement a ‘bash-them’ style game plan on the Storm, after it was successful in ending the premiership hopes of the Dragons on Saturday night.

“I thought it was Origin-like the way they started that game,” Barrett said on Bigpond Sports Weekend.

“If they can do that next week and skip to an early lead they are a chance of beating Melbourne.”

Barrett revealed a possible chink in the armour for the Broncos and believes the Storm may need to wait sixty minutes to exploit it.

“The thing that Melbourne will probably look at is if they can go with Brisbane for an hour and be twelve all or ten-eight… they will think they can win.

“They [Brisbane] get really tired and they showed in patches last night they could have let the Dragons back into the game. Only through the Dragons mistakes that they didn’t.”

Barrett pin-pointed Ashton Sims and Nick Kenny as the go-to-hitmen for the Broncos in Saturday night’s victory, praising their intimidating defense as a key to Brisbane’s game-plan.

“I think Ashton Sims gave him [Justin Poore] a fair work over as well [as Nick Kenny].”

Barrett highlighted the difference between regular season games and semi finals, likening the fast pace and physicality of semi-finals to that of State of Origin.

“Semi finals and Origin games they’re different… and a lot of the players in the Dragons side haven’t played in real big games before.

“They are different and [the] Broncos have a lot of experienced players.”

The Broncos boast an impressive resume of State of Origin stars, matched only by that of the Melbourne Storm. It remains to be seen if the ‘bash-them’ style game plan of the Broncos is successful or if the Storm can withstand Brisbane’s fire-power and successfully come home with a wet sail.

CLICK HERE to view the full interview.
