NSWRL Academy Coaching and Development Officer – Special Projects Yvette Downey is one of three finalists for the Harvey Norman Women in League Award (Paid) to be presented at the One Community Awards on Monday (Sept 27). <br><br> The fourth annual One Community Awards will be hosted during Grand Final week for the first time, with a star-studded cocktail event at Sydney’s Town Hall launching the most exciting array of Telstra Premiership Grand Final week celebrations in the game’s history. <br><br> The One Community Awards pay tribute to the game’s unsung heroes from across the country – the mums, dads, volunteers, coaches, teachers, development officers, clubs and officials – who tirelessly dedicate themselves to helping others enjoy the game. <br><br> The Women In League Achievement Awards – for a volunteer and a paid employee – are among 10 awards to be presented. <br><br> Yvette Downey has been involved with the game over the past eight years, starting out as a primary school development officer. In recent years she has been responsible for the development of women’s rugby league and special projects. <br><br> The Women in League Achievement Awards (Volunteer and Paid) are presented to women who have either acted as an outstanding advocate for the advancement and opportunity of women in rugby league or the advancement of rugby league generally. <br><br> They will be recognised for their personal achievements and contributions to the game. They will have raised awareness of women's involvement in rugby league, and played an active role in encouraging more girls and women to participate in the game. Or, they may have also made a significant contribution to rugby league development, competitions or events and demonstrated valuable service to the sport. <br><br> Harvey Norman will provide the winners (Volunteer and Paid) with a $5,000 Harvey Norman gift voucher each. <br><br> <b>The (Volunteer) finalists are: Sue Fletcher (Springsure RLFC)</b> Sue has been involved with Springsure RLFC for the past 18 years and has performed almost every role possible with the club including registrar, treasurer and secretary. She also fills many roles within the senior rugby league club including catering, bar work, gate person for home games, selling raffle ticket and licensing coordinator. Sue lives 45km from Springsure on a rural property and can travel anywhere up to 330km for a club meeting. <br><br> <b>Penny Morgan (Kellyville Bushrangers)</b> <br> Penny has been involved with rugby league for eight years since moving from Tasmania with her seven children. She now volunteers up to 36 hours every week in her role as Club Secretary and is heavily focused on charity work. <br><br> <b>Jennifer Hunt (Cronulla Sutherland Referees Association)</b> <br> Industrial lawyer Jennifer Hunt has dedicated the past 15 years to volunteering her time as a referee for the Cronulla-Sutherland Shire Referees Association, one of only two female referees in the district. She started refereeing at the age of 22, after a knee injury ruled her out from playing. <br><br> <b>The (Paid) finalists are: <br><br> Deane Lees (Manly Sea Eagles)</b> <br> Deane has been working for the Manly Sea Eagles for 12 years, starting as a trainer with the junior teams in 1998. In 2001 she joined the administration team as the football operations manager; and in 2009 launched the community department and started to set up the Sea Eagles Foundation which now has 11 charity partners. <br><br> <b>Diane Langmack (Penrith Panthers) <br><br> Yvette Downey (NSWRL).</b>
